Let’s be real: in the AEC world, we spend years obsessing over RFI responses, value engineering, and whether that one specific cladding will actually show up on site. But once the ribbon is cut and the punch list is (finally) cleared, what’s next?
If your project just sits there looking pretty without a press strategy, you’re leaving half the value on the table. Moving a project from under construction to the front page is about building the reputation that wins you the next big contract.
Here’s how we can work together to turn your hard hats into headlines.
- Plant the Seeds Early (The Win Phase)
The journey to a magazine cover actually starts at the pitch. When you’re aligning with a client’s vision and showcasing your firm’s secret sauce, you’re already building a narrative.
Here is a pro tip: Don’t wait until the professional photoshoot to start documenting. Save those initial napkin sketches, the early-stage BIM renders, and even the before shots of a gritty site and construction images throughout the project. Those process assets are gold for editors who want to see the evolution of a design, not just the finished product.
- What’s the Hook?
Every building has four walls and a roof, but not every building has a story. To get published, we need to figure out what makes your project the main character.
- The Problem/Solution: Did you squeeze a Net-Zero lab onto a tiny urban lot? That’s a story.
- The Tech: Did you use generative design or a modular workflow that saved the client 25%? Tell me more.
- The Humans: AEC is a team sport. Highlighting the collaboration between the architects, the structural wizards, and the general contractor adds the kind of depth that trade journals love.
- The Pitch Playbook
Once the project is wrapped, it’s time to get loud. But here’s the thing: editors are busier than a project manager on a Friday afternoon. We need to make their lives easy.
- Pick Your Battles: Not every project belongs in Architectural Record or Arch Digest. Some are better suited for ENR (technical wins) or even lifestyle mags (aesthetic wins). We’ll find the right fit.
- The Elevator Pitch Package: We’re looking for a tight 3-5 sentence hook. Pair that with the hero shot (one high-res image that stops the scroll), the context (crisp floor plans and sections (don’t send the full set!), and the credits (everyone, from the lighting designer to the specialized window manufacturer, deserves a shoutout.)
- Don’t Just Post It – Celebrate It
When the article finally drops, don’t just send one “look-at-us” LinkedIn post and call it a day. There are many ways to share the news, like:
- Tag the Team: Share and celebrate with the consultants and the client. It reinforces those relationships for the next RFP.
- The Long Tail: Showcase your credibility by featuring that “As Seen In” badge on your website and include the article link in your next interview presentation.
Every Project has a Story. Let’s Tell Yours.
You’ve done the hard work of designing and building the physical world; now let’s make sure people actually see it. If you’ve got a project that’s nearing completion or one you think the world missed, I’m all ears.
